The EmSAT English Achieve assesses the extent to which a test taker is ready to study in an English‐medium college or university. It is a computer-based exam and has six major sections – Grammar, Vocabulary, Sentence Construction, Cloze Reading, Extended Reading, and Writing. Most of the tests have randomized sections, questions, and choices. The test is timed by a computer in sections and subsections. Test-takers can see how much time they have throughout the exam.

EmSAT Achieve English
EmSAT Achieve English is a new standardized test from the UAE Ministry of Education that students can take to demonstrate their level of English proficiency. The test is divided into three sections: Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Test-takers receive four scores in the Achieve English test:
EmSAT Overall Score: a combined score for Reading and Writing, between 300 and 2000. Reading Score: Reading scores are determined by a CEFR band, which consists of questions on Grammar, Vocabulary, and reading texts. Question types can include multiple-choice, drag and drop, fill-in-the-blanks, or sentence reordering.
Writing Score: a CEFR band is awarded for Writing, based on a 30-minute, 250-word typed essay on a single topic.
EmSAT Band: This is the overall CEFR level of the student between A1 and C2 combining the Writing and Reading bands.

Appendix 1: Content Areas
Reading
- Grammar :In In the Grammar section of the test, test-takers are judged on their ability to select appropriate words to complete sentences. Questions can be multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blanks, drag, and drop, or re-ordering words to form a sentence.
- Vocabulary :Students are assessed on their vocabulary knowledge by answering short multiple-choice questions designed to measure their understanding of high-frequency words necessary to function effectively in an English-medium environment.
- Cloze Reading Passages :In Cloze reading passage sections of the test, the examinee can see blanks in short (200-word) reading passages where necessary words have been removed. The removed words are presented above the text along with other options and test-takers drag the words to fill the blanks.
- Extended Reading
There are three reading texts in this section, including descriptive, narrative, and expository texts, ranging from 275 to 550 words. The extended reading section includes

- Simple factual details,
- Finding the meaning of an unfamiliar word,

Writing:
The Writing component consists of a single writing task. The response is word‐processor mediated, and test-takers are expected to write 200‐250 words.
Timing
The EmSAT English Achieve test is divided into multiple sections and the allotted time for the exam is 125 minutes. Each section is timed individually. Upon completing a section within the allocated time scale, test takers' responses are automatically saved and moved to the next one.
